Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
