The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
